BackgroundThe protein encoded by this gene is a syntaxin family membrane receptor involved in vesicle transport. The encoded protein binds alpha-SNAP, an important regulator of transport vesicle fusion. Along with syntaxin 13, this protein plays a role in the ordered fusion of endosomes and lysosomes with the phagosome. [provided by RefSeq, May 2016],

Mediates the endocytic trafficking from early endosomes to late endosomes and lysosomes.,similarity:Belongs to the syntaxin family.,similarity:Contains 1 t-SNARE coiled-coil homology domain.,subunit:Forms a SNARE complex with VTI1B, STX8 and VAMP8 which functions in the homotypic fusion of late endosomes.
