BackgroundThe protein encoded by this gene contains a RING zinc finger, a motif known to be involved in protein-protein interactions. This protein interacts with androgen receptor (AR) and may function as a coactivator that induces AR target gene expression in prostate. A dominant negative mutant of this gene has been demonstrated to inhibit the AR-mediated growth of prostate cancer. This protein also interacts with class III ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s) and may act as a ubiquitin-ligase (E3) in the ubiquitination of certain nuclear proteins. Six alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011],
Functioncaution:Lacks the His residue in the RING-type domain 2 that is one of the conserved features of the family.,caution:The sequence shown here is derived from an Ensembl automatic analysis pipeline and should be considered as preliminary data.,domain:The N-terminal destruction box (D-box) acts as a recognition signal for degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway.,domain:The RING-type zinc finger is essential for the interaction with UBE2E2.,function:Might act as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase which accepts ubiquitin from specific E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes and then transfers it to substrates, which could be nuclear proteins. Could play a role as a coactivator for androgen- and, to a lesser extent, progesterone-dependent transcription.,pathway:Protein modification; protein ubiquitination.,PTM:RING-type zinc finger-dependent and UBE2E2-dependent autoubiquitination.,similarity:Be
